Bauchi Gov’t holds first-ever Inter-Secondary Schools Fabric Competition.

The Bauchi State Government is engaging secondary school students in creative arts and craftsmanship to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage and innovative spirit of communities, fostering national unity and integration.

This initiative was highlighted by the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Jamila Dahiru, during the opening of the first-ever Inter-Secondary Schools Fabric Competition themed “Unity in Diversity.”
Dr. Dahiru explained that the competition symbolizes how various patterns, colors, and textures from different cultures and traditions blend to create stunning works of art. She encouraged all stakeholders to celebrate these differences while recognizing the collective strength and beauty they represent. “This theme deeply resonates with our community, emphasizing how our diverse backgrounds, traditions, and perspectives can come together to create something truly extraordinary,” she remarked.

She expressed her gratitude to the participating schools, judges, and stakeholders for their dedication, passion, and innovative skills in realizing each art piece in the competition. “I warmly welcome all participants, judges, and guests. Your presence underscores the importance of preserving and promoting our cultural arts,” Dr. Dahiru stated.

The Commissioner stressed the importance of preserving and promoting cultural arts and encouraged education stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the history and culture of various ethnic groups through stories, traditions, and art.

“As we embark on this journey of discovery and admiration, I urge everyone to appreciate the stories, traditions, and hard work embedded in each fabric,” she emphasized.

Earlier, Hajiya Fatima Musa, the Director of School Services in the ministry, stated that the event, organized in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art, aims to discover and develop arts and craftsmanship talents among students across the state.

Attahiru Musa, the Curator of the National Gallery of Art in Bauchi, highlighted the importance of stakeholder support for such initiatives, noting that it would foster the development of the arts and craft industry by nurturing young talents.
Grace Dantala, a student from Government Girls College Bauchi, thanked the Ministry of Education for the initiative and urged the government to support children in realizing their dreams by providing quality and affordable education.
The winners in the four competition categories were Government Day Technical College Bauchi for Cap Embroidery, Hally Bees Academy Bauchi for Men’s Dress, Government Day Technical College Tafawa Balewa for Women’s Wrapper, and Government Day Secondary School Kofar Wambai for Embroidery Design.
