POLICY
Review and domestication of education policies in the state such as;
a) National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence Free School,
b) Teacher Recruitment and Deployment (TRD) Policy,

2. Sponsorship and hosting of the forthcoming Annual Federal Education Sector Games (FEDUGAM).
3. Supervised the full commissioning and handover of Alternative High School, Bauchi.
4. Support Accelerated Senior Secondary Education Program (ASSEP) by North East Development Commission with number of schools across the State to serve as the program Centers.
5. Upgraded Government Junior Secondary School, Kardam to Government Day Senior Secondary School, Kardam, in Dass LGA.
6. Sponsored a radio program named ‘EDUCATION FRONTIER’ and ‘ILIMI GISHIRIN RAYUWA’ which highlights the achievements accomplished by the ministry.
7. Renovation of staff offices, toilets and upgrade the surroundings and of entrance of the Ministry of Education Headquarters.
8. Improving staff welfare through incentives and commendation for performance.
9. Employed more security personnel in the Ministry of Education Headquarters.
10. Funded renovation and furnished the office of the Honorable Commissioner.
11. Fund the sanitation of the Ministry of Education Headquarters.
12. Installation of Solar System in the office of Hon. Commissioner and Permanent Secretary.
13. Improve reporting of routine programs, activities, exercises and assignment conducted by directorates and other MDA’s.
14. Support Digital literacy training for the senior management staff of the ministry.
15. Installed signboard/nameplate for easy location and identification of the Ministry of Education Headquarters.
16. Conduct 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with positive outcome.
17. Collaborates with Charted Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and secure 50 copies of Textbooks on Taxation to the Ministry of Education.
18. Incorporated Bauchi Children Remand House into conventional Education System.
19. Hosted the first ever Education Summit 2023, in Bauchi State.
20. Launching of Bauchi State Schools Quality Assurance Software and trained the 437 Quality Assurance Officers on its usage.
21. Sought approval of Global Partnership for Education (GPE) for System Transformation Grant (STG).
22. Support creation of Dashboard and Digital Data Collection Solution for School Monitoring, Supervision, and Coaching/Mentoring of Teachers.

32. Improved routine supervision of staff performance through high level management meeting, weekly update and report where necessary.
33. Requested the approval of Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for plots of land for the construction of proposed JUNIOR AND SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS across the 20 LGAs under AGILE project.
34. Recorded massive enrolment into various public schools across Bauchi State as a result of the new policy which gave equal chance to all students that sat for Merit School and BECE Examination across Bauchi State.
35. Increment in students’ performance in the 2023 NECO result from70.52% in 2021, 72.9% in 2022, to 83.51% in 2023.
36. Directed speedy monthly distribution of essential and sufficient food supply to all boarding schools across Bauchi State.
37. Flagged off Out-of-School and Back-to-School/ “A KOMA MAKARANTA” campaign across Bauchi State.
38. Seeks HE action on:
i. Domestication of elongation of service year period (65 years of age/ 40 years of service) and
ii. Teachers grade level promotion to GL 15 like other CS.
39. Inauguration of Bauchi State Education Steering Committee and Launching of 2023 School Enrolment Drive Campaign.
40. Organized a Refresher Training Program in collaboration with development partners (USAID L2R, State2State, UNUCEF, UNDP, BASNEC, FACE-PAM, SISWACHI, etc.) to enhance professional capacity of school Administrators and Teachers.
41. Conducted Phone-in radio (BRC) program highlighting positive policies implemented by the Ministry to support government efforts towards reviving State Education Sector.
42. Received His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bauchi who serves as Chairman Education Committee on a courtesy visit.
43. Supported National Islamic Vocation Course (IVC) held in Bauchi State.
44. Worked on teacher transfers and subject teacher placement.
45. Carried random school visitations and inspections.
46. Revived school monitoring by Quality Assurance department.

Achievements
• Supported the Bauchi state in having a functional Teacher Management Information System and updated Annual School Census. This was achieved through continuous capacity strengthening of education managers and EMIS officers on education indicators and generating a report using the annual school census. Annual School Census record is being used for decision-making (working document to win the WORLD BANK/AGILE Project and development of SESOP/LESOP)
• Education trend and expenditure analysis was conducted, and the report is ready that gave the state an overview of their public expenditure in education to ensure equity and accountability
• Supported the state in conducting the learning assessment using a National Learning Assessment in Basic Education and the report will be disseminated in early 2024 to enable the state to have a data on learning achievement
• Strengthened the capacity of teachers on formative assessment and teachers currently use the monitor students’ learning and adjust based on the pupils’ performance
• Existence of SESOP/LESOP in the state and currently being reviewed with support from NIEPA to make it gender transformative, disability-inclusive, and climate-resilient.
• Deployment of the Nigerian Learning Passport and distribution of tablets across the schools and over 90,000 accessing the learning content through digital content.
• Piloted and scale up the structured pedagogy through Teaching at the right level and early childhood development through capacity building of teachers, head-teachers and school support officers for monitoring, mentoring, and supportive supervision. The performance of learners significantly improved at the end-line assessment
• Domestication of the national framework of action to reduce the rate of out-of-school children through continuous enrollment drives and back-to-school campaigns at the school community using traditional and religious institutions including community structures (SBMCs, CBMCs, and WDCs). As a result of the 2023/2024 enrollment drive campaign, a total number of not less than 25,000 children were enrolled back to school and the enrollment drive campaign validation exercise will give the actual figure that might exceed the figures recorded
• Supported the state in conducting mapping and identification of out-of-school children in the state for tracking school-aged children
• Provided support to the state to domesticate a safe school policy through the establishment of a safe school taskforce committee at the school level and training of the committee on their terms of reference based on the guidelines in safe schools’ initiatives
• The innovative strategies available in the state to support learning for both in-school and out-of-school using a community learning hub and establishment of peer-to-peer mentors using Girls for Girls and He for She.
• A total number of not less than 27,000 adolescent youths participated in skills development programs for learning, personal empowerment, active citizenship, and/or employability through Girls Employability Skills Partnership (GESP)
• Strengthened the capacity of Integrated Qur’anic School facilitators and Center Based Management Committees to support Qur’anic Schools
LEARN Project Achievements
ACHIEVEMENTS
From the advent of the project, it has made tremendous contributions to the state education systems in diverse ways in areas of assessments, trainings, advocacy, and technical supports to strengthens the capacity of personnels in the systems. Below are a list of these achievements:
Assessments
• Learn to read conducted an Early Grade Reading (EGR) assessment for pupils in 50 selected schools in Bauchi state.
• Conducted State Education Account assessment to support the state in tracking and reviewing their budget and expenditures in the different MDAs.
• The project conducted spot check to identify areas of needs on EGR teaching and learning process challenges and areas of improvement.
TRAININGS:
• The project provided technical support to the state in the conduct of School Support Officers training on digital data collection for effective mentoring and coaching process using the BESDA funds.
• Trained and supported the School Based Management Committee in developing a School Monitoring Team (SMT) which monitors and ensures the quality implementation of teaching and learning processes in schools through Connected Development (CODE Learn to Read partner).
• The project supported the state in Teacher Professional Development training using the BESDA funds.
• The project conducted through CODE school safety and Gender training to community heads, SBMCs, Social Mobilization Department staff, teachers, and Civil Society Organizations.
• LEARN to read also supported the Quality Assurance unit in training the School Support Officers on interactive Classroom instructions, which was cascaded to teachers during the School-Based TPD trainings.
ADVOCACY AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION EFFORTS
• Advocated for and engaged teachers to be able to teach literacy in mother tongue (EGR) in accordance with the National Language Policy (NLP) and National Policy on Education (NPE).
• Supported the conduct of state Parle to encourage support and participation of community in school monitoring, financing active response to school needs with regards to teaching and learning in collaboration with the School Based Management Committees
System Strengthening Support
• LEARN to Read supported the state in conducting Institutional Capacity Assessment to identify the gaps in the different education MDAs, providing recommendations for improvement.
• Identified and trained the National Reading Framework (NRF) implementation committee on the content of NRF and its guidelines, which they developed state level implementation guide drawn from the Federal guideline for domestication in the state.
• Conducted a desk review of assessment tools available in the state for the purpose of harmonization and development of a digitalized dashboard reflecting state specific education Indicators and educational data for effective decision making.
• Supported the state to participate in the National Assessment Summit with the view to come up with a coherent assessment system in the state.
• The project supported the state by building their capacity to be able to be able to input EGR line items in the state budget and also the Medium-Term State Sector Plan.
• Conducted an orientation for the state appropriation committee on effective tracking and monitoring as well as review of budget, which will inform subsequent budgeting process for MDAs.
• Learn to Read supported the School Support Officers in carrying out effective and result oriented coaching and mentoring.” so far
